Richard is a Major in the U.S. Army with over 21 years experience in the Military Police Corps, a combat veteran in the War on Terror, and a published writer of over thirty articles and book chapters in terrorism, security management, and other related topics. He is a Certified Master Antiterrorism Specialist and Terrorologist working for the Center for Homeland Security (CHS) at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs as a graduate course instructor in terrorism studies and homeland defense. Richard also chairs the Terrorism Studies and Standards Committee for the Anti Terrorism Accreditation Board (ATAB) and is a Diplomate and Premier Speaker for the National Center for Crisis Management (NCCM). He is also a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress, Emergency Crisis Response, and School Crisis Response and carries professional certifications from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Basic Crisis/Hostage Negotiations School and Post Blast Investigator’s Course, the United States Army Antiterrorism Instructor’s Course and Special Reaction Team (SRT) course, and the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security (ABCHS).


Richard has been assigned to both the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) as a commanding officer and instructor. His deployments in support of Operations "ENDURING FREEDOM" and "IRAQI FREEDOM" along with his graduate degrees in Business and Organizational Security Management from Webster University and Counseling & Leader Development from Long Island University, and graduate certification in Terrorism Studies from the University of Saint Andrews, provide him with the well-rounded professional and educational backgrounds necessary to educate and train others in the areas of security, terrorism, crisis management, and leader development. With his qualifications and ambition to provide the tools necessary to understand and defeat terrorism as well as acts of terror, Richard has become a dedicated terrorologist and is breaking new ground in a modernistic field known as "Terrorology".


This advanced study specifically dedicated to the areas of terrorism, antiterrorism, and counterterrorism is the basis for the understanding, identification, prevention, and elimination of terrorism. Furthermore, Richard teaches cutting edge techniques necessary for a proper recovery phase from operational and psychological perspectives.


Due to his certifications as an antiterrorism instructor, conventional physical security officer, and special reactions team (SRT) leader, the United States Air Force Academy called upon Richard to participate in critical executive and advisory roles in the creation and execution of exercise active shooter scenarios and security plans with reference to a safer university environment for students, teachers, and administrators.


Outside the Army, he has dedicated himself to the field of Terrorology as a graduate and undergraduate studies instructor, researcher, and author and is currently working on the publishing of two books, The Dynamics of Terror and Creation of Homegrown Terrorists (Read) and Terrorology: The Study of Terrorism (Read) , which are both under contractual review with HALO Publishing Inc. at this time. Richard is the President of Extreme Terrorism Consulting, LLC and the professionals in our orgnization are dedicated to protecting the innocent against the varying forms of terrorism and all acts of terror that threaten our society on a daily basis.
